Behind My Skin
Without pain there is no redemption, without dust there are no white flowers. Living close to each other, mirroring each other, we rub our skin against each other's blood. The blood mixes, the pain grows. Let us forgive ourselves. To others. To each other. Let pain become a step towards liberation.
"Behind My Skin is the directorial debut of Estonian post-dance pioneer Diana Harten. It's a story about physical pain that teaches, educates and develops the human soul. The production is based on the intimate texts of Russian photographer Maria Krugovaya, which speak about mental health, sexuality and coping in a patriarchal society.
The central element of the dance performance is the pole, around which themes unfold that we tend to hide under the surface of the body. Four postal dancers take to the stage to wash away all the fragility that has accumulated over the years.
"Behind My Skin is dedicated to all those who have not always been honest with themselves, who are strong and strong-willed, who have lost their way at the crossroads of society's expectations.
The production is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
